Why this campaign is needed

There is low public awareness outside of people directly impacted and those involved in control) about what’s at stake with wilding pine spread if control is not adequately funded.

What’s at stake is the loss of places important to all New Zealanders – it’s happening now and it’s happening quickly. Once wildings are established, we won’t be able to easily get these places back.

What we stand to lose

We will lose more than just views:

  • We’ll lose native species, precious water resources and land for food production, forestry, tourism and recreation.
  • Heritage sites will be lost to a sea of trees.
  • Wildfires will become more common and intense, putting lives and properties at risk.

We’re starting to defer maintenance and lose ground and new wilding forests are establishing all the time from the mountains to our coasts – nowhere is safe – we must act now.
