Wild about Wildings – The Battle for Aotearoa’s Open Landscapes
Date: 2nd June 2026
As part of our Help Save campaign https://wildingpinenetwork.org.nz/helpsave/ we are going to the 2026 Mystery Creek field days. Come visit us from the 10th to 13th June at D70 – we are in the Rural Advocacy Hub thanks to Federated Farmers.
We have done up a couple of banners to promote what we do – one from the South Island:
And the other from the North Island:
We want to celebrate the recent funding boost but also gently encourage the government that the job is not done with a one off boost. We want to respectfully get the message across that the following work is still required:
100% of the International Visitor Levy needs to be focused on conservation and tourism
Grazing or active management of around 500,000 hectares of DOC land is essential
10 years of bi-partisan funding is required to properly deal with the wilding challenge
Support the completion of the updated national conifer management plan
Start and implement a national pest management plan for wilding conifers
We have also produced a ‘pocket’ pamphlet identifying why wildings are a problem and how we can better address it.
